On Gandhi Jayanti, the Delhi Police and the Central Armed Police Forces were out in full force at India’s capital to contain a fresh wave of hundreds of protesters who are demanding the resignation of the country’s Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar against whom his own colleagues have apparently revolted. Has the government of India led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah learnt any lessons from what happened in Jantar Pradesh in July 2026 when protests by the youth led to the resignation of the then Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan? Should we not follow the path shown to us by the “father of the nation” Mahatma Gandhi?
