"It's a Crackdown on Free Journalism", Paranjoy Guha Thakurta tells Tamal Saha after NewsClick raids

Talking Straight: In an explosive interview senior Journalist Paranjoy Guha Thakurta spoke with Tamal Saha and termed the recent raids carried out by the Delhi Police across New Delhi and even in other states, at the homes of at least 45 journalists associated with NewsClick, ‘unprecedented’. Thakurta was interrogated by the Delhi Police’s Special Cell for over 10 hours on Tuesday, October 3. He made parallels with the 'emergency period' and called it a crackdown on free, fearless and independent journalism. "Other regimes have been equally critical of criticisms but no one had weaponised all it's agencies to stifle voices of dissent as much as has been done by Modi Government", said Thakurta. He narrated how police had accessed his phones, his messages and even personal photos while scanning through his phone.
